Collection: Brand: Riihimaki / Riihimäen Lasi

Riihimäen Lasi was one of the principal glass manufacturers in Finland during the twentieth century. In mid 20th century it became an important part of Finland’s export industry, supplying domestic markets as well as international buyers.

In the postwar period, Riihimäen Lasi strengthened its position through collaboration with leading designers. Among the most recognised was Nanny Still, whose coloured glass series from the 1960s gained wide distribution and international attention. Designers working for the factory explored strong geometric forms, vivid colours, and sculptural silhouettes. Their work aligned with broader Nordic modern design while maintaining a distinct identity through bold palettes and clear mass production techniques.

Riihimäen Lasi became known for combining industrial scale manufacturing with design driven production. Pressed and blown glass lines were developed for everyday use, while selected art glass pieces highlighted experimental form and colour. The factory ceased operations in 1990.

They shared a common modernist style characterized by clean geometric lines, bright and unusual glass colors and meticulously crafted forms. Tamara Aladin also created many works in the pop art style.
